A shallow depth of field brings selected ridges forward while others dissolve into shadow, making the overlapping roots resemble waves or exposed geological layers. Light rests on portions of the wood, and the darker spaces between them create a sense of depth that is both physical and temporal. The image is quieter and more intimate than a descriptive study of a tree.
